Ram Goes to School!

Ram has started school. A case of first time ever self enrolled student!!! Mouli and I just went to check out a couple of playschools in the neighbourhood so that we would be well prepared to make our decison for this Vijayadasami enrollment (new batches are taken on this auspicious day). By the time we had settled on our chairs to meet with the owner and teachers , we realized that Ram had walked right into the classroom and made himself quite comfortable. The teachers also decided it was his first day and thats how he began school on Monday (22nd June 2009).

It came as no big surprise since he has been after us to take him to school now that Varsha spends longer hours at school. She leaves home by 8:45am and is back at 2:20pm by which time Ram is already taking his afternoon nap. So effectively he gets to see her only close to teatime. That has probably created the vaccum for him and his urge to start school simply exploded on monday when he decided to take things in his control and enrol into Kishore Vihaar.

So Day 2 was more like Day 1 for him and me . He was very excited to wake up to head to his "school". He went about doing everything from brushing his teeth, taking his bath, getting dressed and finishing his breakfast along with Varsha though shool for her would start at 9am and only at 10am for him! He was just waiting to put on his backpack and head out of the door.

It took quite a bit of convincing that we would have to get back home after dropping his akka at school for amma to actually get ready! He kept waiting by the door till we actually headed out. School has been fun so far for him. The first week of school comes to and end today and next week onwards he gets to be in school for two hours. By July 1st he get three hours of playtime at school.

Its an amazing feeling to see my little one actually step out into the big wide world. Its exactly the same way I felt when Lakshmipriya had started school two years ago. Its also a big step for me to watch my little ones grow a little bigger everyday.

Rowing lifes boat

I once heard one of my favourite motivational speakers, Dr. Wayne Dyer, quote a nursery rhyme to elucidate lifes philosophy.

Row ,row, row your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily,merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream.

He said in his speech, Life isnt all that complicated as we make it to be. He was infact gently reminded by his little daughter one day as they sang this rhyme while playing and his preoccupied mind was jolted with a realization on understanding the ACTUAL philosophy it conveyed.

I have been inspired by this ever since, and most of the times that I get all wired up inside, I try to reason myself with this little poem.

Without any changes to the original rhyme he simply lay stress on some of the words and turned it into the most meaningful poem I've heard.

Row ,row , row YOUR boat ( row just your boat not anyone elses)

GENTLY DOWN the stream ( Row it gently, dont try to make it a speedboat, and dont try to go against the flow/current)

Merrily Merrily Merrily, Life is but a DREAM ( This is the simplest way we could make our living life a dream of its own!!)

I have quoted this over and over to many people I know. But everytime I share it I have a sense of joy that I cannot express in words...its almost like a discovery in itself everytime.Today, I share it once again.
